Gore Verbinski's Pirates films created a fantasy-adventure palette drawn from the golden age of Hollywood swashbucklers. Warm Caribbean ambers, the deep blue-green of tropical seas, the weathered browns of aged ships and sun-cracked skin. The supernatural elements pushed into cooler, stranger territory, the Flying Dutchman wreathed in deep-sea greens and blues. The series committed fully to a world where everything looks slightly more beautiful than reality.
