The Friday the 13th series is defined by its setting as much as its killer. Camp Crystal Lake's deep forest greens, the dark blues of the lake at night, the amber of campfire light against which teenagers become silhouettes. The series' low budgets actually contributed to its aesthetic, forcing a naturalism that made the woods feel genuinely threatening rather than dressed.
