Burton's gothic visual sensibility is expressed through color as much as production design. The hyper-saturated primaries of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, the literally colorless world of Edward Scissorhands broken by the scissorhands' sharp glint, the dusty purples and blacks of Batman and Beetlejuice. His collaboration with Bo Welch and later Colleen Atwood means costume and palette are always unified.
