Zombie's horror films inhabit a specifically American color space. The faded browns and yellows of 1970s grindhouse, the rust and grime of rural decay. House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects have different palettes, the former garish and artificial, the latter bleached and sun-burned, but both are rooted in the aesthetics of exploitation cinema's particular degraded beauty.
