Park Chan-wook uses color the way a composer uses dissonance: beautifully, but with intent to disturb. The Vengeance trilogy's muted palette makes its occasional bursts of red more violent than any amount of gore. Stoker and The Handmaiden deploy deep saturated jewel tones, greens, golds, crimsons, that make desire and danger feel aesthetically indistinguishable.
