Stone's visual style in his peak period was almost assaultingly varied. JFK mixes film stocks, aspect ratios, and color temperatures within individual scenes. Natural Born Killers uses color as a full psychotic break. Platoon's muted jungle greens and Born on the Fourth of July's flag-red patriotism show he understood color's ideological weight.
