Mann's digital turn in the 2000s was a color revolution. Miami Vice, Collateral, and Heat shot on digital video with existing light created a blue-grey Los Angeles nocturne that felt entirely new. The city's neon and sodium reflected in rain-wet streets, color bleeding and pooling. His aesthetic is urban, nocturnal, and perpetually blue.
