Kieślowski's Three Colors trilogy is organized entirely around color. Blue, White, Red corresponding to the French flag and its ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Blue's saturated cobalt grief, White's cold Polish winter, Red's warm Geneva amber. No filmmaker has used color as primary structure so completely, making the palette the argument before the story begins.
