Woo's Hong Kong action films are operatic in their color. The white suits against black locations of The Killer, the warm amber of A Better Tomorrow, the slow-motion violence caught in golden light. His American films pushed this further into the hyperreal. White doves, pristine clothing against blood: his palette is built on the contrast between purity and violence.
