Jarmusch's aesthetic is coolly monochromatic even in color. His palette tends toward the muted and grey, the urban and underlit. Broken Flowers' faded Midwestern interiors, Only Lovers Left Alive's midnight blues, Paterson's daily-life naturalism. When color does arrive in his work it tends to be accidental and beautiful: a street sign, a jacket, a film frame.
