Godard embraced color as a political and aesthetic weapon from his first experiments with it in the 1960s. Contempt, Pierrot le Fou, and Week End use primary reds, yellows, and blues as blunt instruments. Colors that don't blend or harmonize but assert themselves separately. For Godard, Technicolor was too beautiful and too commercial to be trusted, so he used it as critique.
