Wheatley's British genre films each have their own color approach. Kill List's muted realism gives way to ritual horror, A Field in England shoots in black and white, High-Rise works in a 1970s period palette, Free Fire in warehouse grime. His flexibility suggests a filmmaker for whom color is a tool to be selected from a full box rather than a signature to maintain.
